The French name of the brand, translated into Russian, means "crankshaft" (crankshaft).
This strange name is due to the fact that its founder Fred Priscel was a passionate collector of cars. Recently, a new spring-summer collection of Vilebrequin 2012, called “Colors of India”, was presented in Dubai, about which designer of the brand Zaza de Brito told us with pleasure.
Zaza, please tell me, is it true that the Vilebrequin brand appeared by chance?
In part, yes. The famous swimming trunks, which our brand is so famous for today, first appeared on the Cote d'Azur thanks to an experiment. They were sewn from a regular cotton tablecloth. The cut was original and unusual, but the cotton did not meet the high hygiene requirements, so soon this material was replaced by a “spinnaker canvas” (emerged polyamide), which has the property of drying very quickly after getting wet. It was the latter option that glorified the new company.
When and where were the first Vilebrequin branded boutiques opened?
In 1995, Vilebrequin significantly expanded the range of products provided, presenting the first children's collection. And in 1996, she opened the first branded boutique in Saint-Tropez, and then in Paris. Today we have opened more than 70 boutiques around the world. Various collections are presented in them, each of which numbers from 150 to 200 models of swimming trunks of 16 types of cut: from long boxers of a classical silhouette to ultra-short sports shorts of the sports plan.
Zaza, since you are a brand designer, tell me, how is the color scheme usually chosen for each new collection?
The color palette with which we work is always vibrant and juicy, and has over 50 shades - from pastel to dark, neutral and bright. Themes of prints are updated in each collection, however, floral, animalistic and fruit patterns dominate. Their durability and brightness are achieved due to the fact that paint is applied to the fabric twelve times during the production process. For example, to create the famous Vilebrequin swimming trunks, operations are required. And the threads for the seams are so strong that they can withstand weight up to four tons. In addition, all models have inconspicuous openings that do not allow swimming trunks to inflate when swimming and quickly release water when approaching the shore. What else can I buy at Vilebrequin stores today? In the winter collections, we offer the attention of customers inflated waterproof vests and jackets with zippers - it is practical and very convenient.
