From heaven to earth

From 2 to 5 January 2011, the 2nd International Parachuting Championship and the Persian Gulf Cup for Parachuting DIPC & Gulf Cup 2011 were held in Dubai under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of the Emirate. The organizers of the championship were: Aviation Association UAE and Skydive Dubai.

This year, the competitions of the most professional paratroopers in the world were held in three main categories: swoop - piloting high-speed parachute canopies with landing above the pool, group acrobatics (fours) and classic parachuting.

90 pilots from 28 countries of the world took part in the swoop competitions, 26 teams, including six women's, from 17 countries (including from Russia, the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine) and more than 100 participants in the classic competition took part in group acrobatics parachuting arrived from 28 countries.

Three Russian teams competed in the men's fours, one in the women's. The women's and men's touchdown accuracy teams and the domed piloting team also presented their skills in the Dubai Cup.

According to the results of the competition, the Russian team received two gold medals, one silver and two bronze. “Gold” was won for the team accuracy of a female group landing: Lyubov Ekshikeyeva, Olga Lepezina, Elena Laktionova, Evgenia Furman, Svetlana Klenina. Another gold medal was awarded to Olga Lepezina for the individual accuracy of the touchdown.

Silver in the same discPlina - individual accuracy - went to Elena Laktionova. The male group of Russians, consisting of: Dmitry Maximov, Vitaly Tuzov, Alexey Burenin, Dmitry Mastafanov, Alexey Bykov, managed to win the “bronze” for the team accuracy of the landing. Also, bronze medals were received by athletes who performed in the group acrobatics discipline (fours): Elena Chistova, Zhanna Kazakova, Maria Serova, Elena Mazaeva, Andrey Karin.

Most athletes participating in the Russian national parachuting team are world-class masters of sports and multiple world champions. If we talk about the male part of the team, then its main backbone is the former graduates of the Ryazan Higher Military Airborne School, with a huge number of jumps performed in a variety of conditions. According to members of the Russian national team, "jumping in Dubai is a pleasure, there is good visibility and a gentle wind, without jerking, so it’s easy to handle parachutes."

The Belarusian women's team in a dispute with the strongest paratroopers in the world took second place. The Republic of Belarus was represented by army athletes - masters of sports of international class Lyudmila Gavrilenko, Natalya Zimina, Oksana Fomina, master of sports Valeria Kotova. The national team included DOSAAF pupil Elena Stalkova, international master of sports. In addition, Natalia Zimina took third place in the individual competition.

Third place - the team of Poland. Athletes from Kazakhstan performed very worthy. The paratroopers from Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Norway, and other European countries spoke out against the representatives of our teams for victory in all disciplines. All participants and judges unanimously declare that the Dubai Cup is becoming one of the most prestigious and significant parachuting competitions in the world.
