Open book library under construction in Dubai

The municipality of Dubai has checked progress in the construction of a new landmark - an open book library.

Representatives of the municipality of Dubai visited a plot of 66 thousand square meters. m near Dubai Creek, which is building a new attraction - the Mohammad Bin Rashid Library.

The project cost is estimated at one billion dirhams ($ 272 million). The building will be in the form of an open book and will consist of a main building with a basement, a basement and seven floors, as well as a central warehouse for books.

The library will also include a center for the preservation and restoration of books, manuscripts and documents, a museum of rare artifacts from the collection of the Al Maktoum family and a museum dedicated to the heritage and history of human civilization. The project will be divided into 10 specialized libraries, which will store 1.5 million printed books, 2 million digital and a million audio books.

Although no accurate data were provided, the project adheres to the planned schedule with the opening in mid-2018. It is estimated that 42 million people will visit the library annually.

The project was announced by Sheikh Mohammed in honor of the Year of Reading, which in 2016 became the initiative of the President of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
