Dubai's population doubled four times in 30 years

According to new data, Dubai has experienced double population growth four times over the past 30 years.

According to a new study by the United Arab Emirates University, currently 91.6% of Dubai's population are expats.

Dr. Fais Elesawi, a researcher in Geography and Urban Planning at Al Ain College of Humanities and Social Sciences, presented an analysis of how population growth of 1000 percent in just 40 years made Dubai the most populous city in the UAE and one of the fastest growing in the world.

The work used analytical and penal methods to compare the growth of the city with a territory of only 54 square meters. km in 1975 to 977 square meters. km in 2015 against the backdrop of a population boom, as a result of which the number of people living in the emirate doubled four times over a 30-year period. From 2005 to 2015, the population of Dubai increased by 109 thousand people a year.

Dr. Elesavi notes that about 85% of the population of Dubai are men.

The researcher admits that the influx of migrants and expats to Dubai has not yet ended, although the number of foreigners in the emirate has increased from 132371 in 1975 to more than 2.1 million 40 years later.
