We offer you an essay on the old Dubai school.

Almost 100 years have passed since the day this school was built, but the smell that has still been preserved in its walls resembles those days. Despite the repairs and restorations that have been carried out repeatedly, small fingerprints can be seen on the doors and windows of the school, and on the plates of the yard there are traces of the children who once played here.

After standing a little on the court and after a moment or two, you can probably hear how voiced children's voices accompany the birds singing in the morning. And if you look closely, then see the portfolios dumped in the corner, which seem to be waiting for the end of the lessons. And if you use all your imagination, then attend a lesson in the Arabic language and listen to the kind speech of the teacher.

School "Al Ahmadiya" is a witness to the events of many years ago and a cultural monument. It began the era of universal secondary education in Dubai. She proudly stands in the very center of the old city and keeps many old secrets: photographs and images of the first students and those who taught within its walls. The school “remembers” each of its graduates and those who have become knowledge carriers.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Dalmuk began to build this school about 100 years ago, but he died before the end of construction. His son Muhammad finished the work begun by his father and named the school by his name - "Al Ahmadiyah." Muhammad began to invite teachers from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and other Arab countries to the school. They taught children Arabic language and literature, the Koran and mathematics. For primary school students, education was free. High school students paid a purely symbolic amount for their studies. They were from wealthy families, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Dalmuk paid for the remaining children.

In 1973, the state budget completely took over the financing of secondary schools in Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Nur was appointed director of the Al Ahmadiya school. At this time, teachers such as Hassan Bumelha, Muhammad bin Dabauk, Muhammad Ben Ali and others worked at the school. All these people were prominent public figures.

We can mention the most famous graduates of this school, among whom were Sheikh Ubaid bin Jumaa Al-Maktoum, Ahmed bin Abdussalam, Tani bin Rashid Al-Matrushi, Rashid Al-Hamli, Muhammad Al-Futtime, Nasir Al-Sirkal, Hamed bin Dalmuk and Muhammad bin Nur, who later became the principal of the school, and many other famous people in Dubai today.

For many years, the school "survived" several restorations and repairs, for which the Department of Historical Knowledge of the Dubai Municipality was responsible. The largest restoration took place in 1993, during which the main work was carried out to strengthen the destroyed parts of the walls, bearing columns and roofs, as well as cosmetic work to give the exterior a natural look. The foundation of the school was strengthened with hard stones and the so-called "saruz" (in Arab countries - a type of burnt clay, which is used as a waterproof insulating material). All walls were repaired - the broken areas were covered with shell rock blocks, the old plaster was removed, and a new one was applied in return. Restorers replaced rotten wooden floors that held the roof, as well as balancers and beams that strengthen the walls between them. Upon completion of the repair and restoration, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al-Maktoum reopened the school building, which was transferred to the Department of Tourism and Commercial Marketing of the Government of Dubai in April 2000.

Numerous photographs and drawings on the walls of old classes will tell you about the history of Al Ahmadiya School. You just have to become a part of this place and invite the past to visit. How cool it is to run around the school grounds and catch up with your comrades in order to drink water from large clay jugs. Or imagine yourself as a teacher, slowly drinking tea in the kitchen during a break, or a strict imam, waving a long thin pointer in front of those who did not learn the Koran ... In this timeless place, it seems you can remove the dust of memory and meet again with childhood. Here you are - in the classroom, sitting at the desk in the last row and hiding from the teacher, because you did not learn the lesson. Or, on the contrary, you sit in the front row and diligently pull your hand, knowing in advance the answer to any question asked ...

Moving from class to class, you meet the past of your country, looking at you from paintings with old stamps and letters that were written by hand. Wow, your ancestors had a very delicate taste and perfectly mastered the art of writing arabesques. Teachers and students watch from the old yellowed photos that they gave and received their knowledge within the walls of this school ...

I really want you to once touch those times of history and meet with the good people of that generation. And took pictures with them for good memory. You will become a captive of your feelings and children's archive of memories. You will certainly want to know what these ancient walls keep, and hear the light creak of old windows and doors. And then, after hearing the birds singing, you can feel the smiles of the students and enjoy with them the successful completion of the school year and the transition to the next class. And the bird, flapping its wings, will remind you of the graduate that he is joyfully running, waving his certificate of graduation from school.

Al Ahmadiyah School is a host of feelings hidden under a roof and behind walls. These are traces of those who went through it into adulthood. The names of famous emirate scholars, businessmen and politicians are forever inscribed in the history of this school so that the younger generation does not forget the path to the "temple of enlightenment" of their ancestors. The air, saturated with history, envelops visitors like a beautiful dream, and when the hour of farewell comes, the feeling remains, as if moments of history had stopped.
