Last Sunday, RoadSafetyUAE, a road safety organization, launched the first child car seat with airbags in collaboration with the Mamas & Papas brand. This step aims to raise awareness of the importance of child safety.
About 64 percent of child deaths are the result of traffic accidents (in Abu Dhabi). Experts believe that the new seat belt law, as well as educational efforts and the introduction of innovative products, are key components to improve the situation.
According to Maxi-Cosi, which manufactures the seats, in the event of a collision, the airbags located in the two compartments on the belt inflate within 0.05 seconds. Pillows automatically deflate one second after a collision. Tests prove that the new technology leads to a significant reduction in pressure on the cervical vertebrae and head in the event of a head-on collision.
Thomas Edelmann, Managing Director of RoadSafetyUAE, said: “In a research project we conducted in February 2017, we found that 34% of UAE parents did not have proper child seats or extra pillows. These figures are even more alarming with young parents ( 18-29 years old). "
