Abu Dhabi adopts new rules for retro car owners

In autumn, new rules for registering classic cars begin to operate in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi police announced that starting October 1, 2018, new rules for registering classic cars will be introduced.
According to the new system, retro cars will be divided into two categories. The first will include vehicles that can travel on roads. Registration for a year for them will cost 400 dirhams ($ US 108), and renewal of registration - 350 dirhams ($ US 95), provided that the vehicle has 13-month insurance after passing the inspection.
The second category includes vehicles that serve as exhibits at exhibitions and other events, but are not suitable for use on the roads. To register such vehicles, an insurance policy and inspection, as well as a three-year registration fee of AED 1.1 thousand ($ US 299) or a renewal fee of AED 1050 ($ US 285) will be required.
The registration document for this category of vehicles will clearly indicate that these vehicles cannot be driven on roads. Such vehicles should only be transported on trucks specially designed for this purpose.
