FENDI: the impossible is possible

Text: Lisa Epifanova FENDY'S FAMILY IS AN EXAMPLE OF TALENT, WHICH IS TRANSFERRED BY THE INHERITANCE ALREADY IN THE FOURTH GENERATION. THIS CONFIRMS THE NEW POLICROMIA CLOCK COLLECTION, PRESENTED AT THE BASELWORLD YOUNG EXHIBITION, BUT ALREADY A VERY KNOWN DESIGNER BY DELPHIN DELETER FENDY.

The history of this House began in 1925 in Rome, when the couple Edoardo and Adele Fendi opened their first boutique selling bags and furs. Moreover, the main "creative motor" of the company was Adele, who soon proposed to switch from trade to the creation of their own products. They conveyed talent, energy, an exceptional taste for luxury to all of their five daughters, who demonstrated by their own example that women can be beautiful, sophisticated, receive love and attention, and at the same time reach the heights in a tough and, in general, male world high fashion.

“Nothing is impossible,” Adele loved to repeat to her daughters, and the Fendi sisters fulfilled this covenant, making it the motto of a family company, and the Fendi brand itself - a huge international company, a world fashion leader. In the 1960s, Fendi became the symbol of fur. Thanks to special technologies, the sisters managed to turn this capricious and partly bourgeois material into a universal design touch that perfectly emphasizes any jewelry and accessories.

Soft fluffy fur has become a feature of even Fendi watches. Thanks to this brand, mink straps appeared in the watch fashion, which especially brightens the sparkle of precious stones. In 2011, when the representative of the third generation of the family, Sylvia Venturini Fendi, became the creative director of the House, the brand presented its most iconic collection - Crazy Carats. To create it, Fendi craftsmen used an original patented mechanism that allows you to change the location and combination of precious stones on the dial with one turn of the crown. In each watch instance, three sets of precious stones are built in, which can be changed depending on the color of the clothes or just according to the mood. The collection's trademark is a diamond that adorns the 12 o’clock mark.

By the way, unlike many fashion houses that prefer to transfer watch production to third-party manufacturers under license, Fendi produces watches under its own brand: the House has a separate department Fendi Timepieces, which owns its own factory in Switzerland.

This allows the Fendi timepiece to be quite bold in showing design imagination. Over the past five years, Crazy Carats have more than once become the heroes of the “style of the season” column of leading fashion magazines. Especially everyone remembered another creative success of Sylvia Fendi - the Crazy Mink watch, in which interchangeable diamonds complement the straps made of mink fur of “crazy” colors. Very Fendi style.

But a real surprise for all fans of the Roman House and connoisseurs of bright watch accessories was waiting for this year - at an exhibition in Basel. Fendi introduced a completely new, unique Policromia watch design, created by the daughter of Sylvia, the famous jewelry designer Delphine Delette Fendi, who also produces jewelry under her own brand Delfina Delettrez.

"Polychrome" is a combination of various asymmetric surfaces of different shades and materials, giving the classic round case a unique three-dimensional effect. Diamond inlay, steel, gold are combined with malachite, lapis lazuli, blue and green mother of pearl. In total, the Policromia collection contains twenty models of various color combinations and inlays: from casual casual watches to chic precious accessories for the evening.

By the way, the inspiration for such an unusual design of Dolphin Delette watches was the architecture of the headquarters of the Fendi House itself. Historical continuity, family traditions and modern technology, simple lines and a unique drawing with one stroke - this is the "impossible" from Fendi, which becomes a new style icon right before our eyes.
