Indian rhino first born in Emirate Zoo

A 58 kg Indian rhino cub was born at Al Bustan Nonprofit Zoological Center in Sharjah. He became the first representative of his species to be born in the Middle East. Rhinoceros mother Asha bore him for 470 days and gave birth without the help of veterinarians.
The kid is doing well. He will be supervised by specialists until he grows up, after which he will be sent to the animal breeding center. The Indian horned rhinoceros is the largest representative of its species in the Asian region. Adults reach a height of more than two meters and gain in weight up to 2.5 tons. They are currently listed in the Red Book and are under protection. The total population of Indian rhinos is 2.5 thousand individuals.
