UAE citizens will install solar panels for free

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates unveiled a plan to install solar panels on residential buildings.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Supply Authority (DEWA) has launched a project to install solar panels on UAE citizens' homes in Dubai and connect them to a public grid. It is planned to equip 10 percent of the emirate’s housing.

The project is consistent with the goals set by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. According to DEWA, it is the first government agency to move towards realizing the goals of shaping the future of Dubai and the prosperity of citizens.

Saeed Muhammad Al Thayer, DEWA's Managing Director and CEO, said the agency has selected six contractors who will get to work immediately. The project, fully funded by DEWA, will be completed by the end of 2019.
