Island-reserve in the UAE will open for tourists

The authorities of the United Arab Emirates will open for tourists the island-nature reserve Sir Bou Nair, located 110 kilometers north of the coast of the Emirate of Sharjah as part of an environmental tourism development program. It is expected that the hotel and tourist infrastructure on the island will appear by 2017. Sir Bu Nair Island belongs to the Emirate of Sharjah.

The island was formerly inhabited by Arabs and was a transit point for merchants, as well as a major center for pearl mining and fishing. But now only the servicemen of the emirate’s army and the policemen who guard the UAE’s maritime borders remained here. Rare species of birds nest on the island; here you can also meet giant turtles. Diving enthusiasts are attracted to the rich marine world, coral reefs.
